Standard Visitor Visa Overview

Eligibility
You must satisfy the UK Entry Clearance Officer that you:
- Will leave the UK at the end of your visit
- Have enough funds for your trip without working
- Are genuinely a visitor (tourism, family visit, business meetings)
- Have ties to India (job, property, family)
Documents Required
Identity & Travel:
- Current and previous passports
- Recent photograph (35mm × 45mm, light grey or cream background — different from Indian/Schengen norms!)
- Flight itinerary (book after visa approval to avoid cancellation fees)
Financial:
- Bank statements (last 6 months) — significant funds preferred
- Salary slips (last 3 months)
- Income Tax Returns (last 2 years)
- Proof of property ownership or other assets
Employment:
- Employer letter (designation, salary, leave sanctioned, confirmation you'll return)
- Business owners: company registration, GST returns, CA letter
Accommodation:
- Hotel bookings for UK stay
- If staying with family/friends: their UK address, visa/passport copy, invitation letter

- Travel insurance (highly recommended)

- Apply online — gov.uk/apply-uk-visa — create an account and fill the form
- Pay visa fee — £115 online
- Book biometrics appointment — at VFS Global centre (your city)
- Upload documents — via the UKVI app or VFS centre scan service
- Submit application — await decision (typically 3 weeks)
- Collect BRP or passport — visa vignette in passport or Biometric Residence Permit (for longer stays)

UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) — New in 2024
