Honeymooners' Top Experiences

Underwater Waterfall Illusion The most photographed sight in Mauritius — sand on the ocean floor creates an optical illusion of an underwater waterfall when seen from above. Best viewed from a helicopter or drone. Many resorts offer helicopter tours (~€150–200 per couple for 15 minutes).

Catamaran Day Trip Sail to Île aux Cerfs and Gabriel Island for snorkelling, dolphin watching, and a BBQ lunch on deck. Most resorts arrange these (₹6,000–10,000 per couple).

7 Coloured Earths of Chamarel A geological wonder — sand dunes in seven colours (red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, yellow) that naturally separate even when mixed. Nearby Chamarel Rum Distillery for tasting.

Black River Gorges National Park Mauritius's largest national park — endemic birds (Mauritius kestrel, pink pigeon, echo parakeet), hiking trails, and the stunning Chamarel Waterfall.

Le Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis Capital city shopping and culture — Aapravasi Ghat (UNESCO) where indentured Indian labourers arrived (a profoundly moving Indian heritage site), Central Market for spices and souvenirs.

Luxury Resorts (Top Picks for Honeymooners)

Resort	Area	Character
One&Only Le Saint Géran	East coast	Classic luxury, private beach, Michelin dining

Paradis Beachcomber	Le Morne	On a peninsula, stunning lagoon on both sides
The Oberoi	West coast	Iconic Indian brand in Mauritius, cottage-style villas
LUX* Belle Mare	East coast	Trendy, design-forward, great pool scene
Shanti Maurice	South coast	Ayurvedic spa, secluded, wellness-focused

Mauritius for Indian Travellers — Cultural Connections

About 70% of the Mauritius population is of Indian origin (mainly Bhojpuri-speaking Hindu families whose ancestors came as indentured labourers). This means:

• Indian food everywhere: Biryani, dholl puri (flatbread with yellow split peas — the national street food), roti, bryanis
• Hindu temples: Grand Bassin lake temple (sacred to Maha Shivratri pilgrimage), Shrimati Durgah
• Bollywood music on the radio, familiar cultural references
• Locals will often ask where you're from in India and feel a familial connection

Adventure Activities

• Scuba diving: Excellent visibility and biodiversity — best dive sites at Trou-aux-Biches (north) and Flic-en-Flac (west)
• Kitesurfing: Le Morne area has consistent trade winds — lessons available
• Quad biking: Through sugarcane fields and forest trails in the interior
• Deep sea fishing: Blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo — world-class fishing
